Elpis Rehabilitation Services (ERS) started as a private physiotherapy clinic in Ibanda district in 2017. After seven years of operation, the founders thought of a need to transform it into a non-profit organization due to the complex challenges faced by persons with physical limitations and disabilities (PWDs) that include;

• High cost of rehabilitation especially for chronic conditions like stroke.
• Challenges go beyond rehabilitation. They also face social and economic problems.
• Discrimination and abandonment of persons with disabilities especially children.
• Persons with physical impairments may also need other rehabilitation specialists like speech therapists and occupational therapists.
• Limited knowledge on physical disability and attributing it to cultural beliefs.
